Below please find many common questions for those who may be unfamiliar with Reiki.

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki, pronounced as ray-key, translates as “life-force” energy. It is an ancient healing practice that originated in Japan by a gentleman by the name of Mikao Usui. It is a gentle, spiritual healing practice that brings the body, mind and spirit back to a state of equilibrium.

What happens in a typical session?

A client is fully clothed while laying on a Reiki table or seated comfortably. The practitioner uses various hand positions on or above the physical body in a safe and respectful manner that encourages the natural flow of energy. Sessions can vary in length and the amount of hand positions used based on the needs or the client. The use of blankets, pillows, music, candles, etc.. further enhances the experience of the Reiki treatment.

What are some benefits of a Reiki session and who might it be good for?

After a session, many report feelings of well-being, peace, and relaxation. Reiki affects the subtlest level of the human biofield and energy is then directed where it needs to go. It has a profound affect on the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby promoting stress relief and ease of pain. When the body is able to reach a state of balance, healing on multiple levels takes place. Reiki acts as a catalyst for healing in an organic and noninvasive manner.

Who may be a good candidate for Reiki?

Anyone! Reiki requires no belief system, only the willingness to experience it. Due to it’s gentle nature, many hospitals and hospice facilities offer reiki to patients. It can be especially beneficial to cancer patients and those undergoing intensive medical treatments. People with acute tramas such as broken bones, bruises, or other injuries can find accelerated healing from a treatment. Pregnant women and babies also welcome the peace and relaxation that reiki offers. Pets and plant life also benefit from reiki!

There is much to learn about when it comes to energy work and I invite anyone contact me with any questions.
