We have a saying in the Gitananda tradition: “Where the mind goes, the Prana (energy) flows.”
When I came to know this expression, my first thought was “uh oh!” Then I asked myself honestly: “Are my thoughts based in fear or love?” By becoming aware of the thought patterns, good or bad, we can choose to direct the current of energy elsewhere if it is not serving our highest good.
This is where the powerful practice of intention-setting comes in. By allowing that space to set a mental intention for the day, it allows us to work on an area in our lives that we wish to improve. This opens us up to receive more of the positive and beautiful affirmation of this gift of life. In that, our senses become drawn to that which is aligned with our intention. The more you practice it, the more you will start to notice this shift!
Trust the process and allow it to be
This can also have the opposite effect if we are seeing the world through the lens of faulty perception. This faulty perception can create stress and anxiety in our lives that will diminish our health and happiness overtime.
Prepare the self for the day ahead with the Daily Intention Meditation
Release and Receive
First: Sit in contemplation for a few minutes. Become aware of any negative thoughts, worries, stresses and fears that are not serving you. Ask yourself honestly if you are willing to release them now
Second: If you are ready to let them go, take six breaths. Inhale deeply, filling up all sections of your lungs and on the exhale, bring to mind what you would like to release. Forcefully let out the exhale with a WHOOOOOOSHING sound through your mouth.
Third: After six rounds of your cleansing breath, sit for a few moments and notice how you feel. Do you feel a bit lighter? Are you ready to set your intention?
Fourth: Set your intention. Notice what word comes to mind for you. Sit in quiet contemplation focusing your mind on your intention word for 10-30 minutes. When the mind wanders, simply guide it back to your intention word.
Practice this with rhythm, repetition and regularity and notice the beautiful ripple effects of this practice in your daily life
